In Memoriam: Cy Twombly

Artist Edwin Parker "Cy" Twombly passed away Tuesday at the age of 83 in Rome.  I feel like people either loved or hated his work.  While some people saw beauty in his compositions, other saw childish scribbles.  I personally loved his work and meeting him in Rome was on high my bucket list for life experiences. As a tribute, I'm reposting photos from his studio taken in the 1960's.  He lived his life to the beat of his own drum and did what he loved everyday.  We should all be so lucky.

"My line is childlike but not childish.  It is very difficult to fake...to get that quality you need to project yourself into the child's line.  It has to be felt."

At Home in Rome

When I first found the image of Cy Twombly's bedroom in Rome, I was hoping that I could find photos of the rest of his home.  Some continued sleuthing has unearthed them and they were definitely worth the search.  They were taken by Horst P. Horst in 1966 and most appeared in Vogue's Book of Houses, Gardens, People published in 1968.  I've also included two photos taken during a photo shoot for Vogue magazine from 1968.  One of the models looks to be Marisa Berenson.  The interiors are probably the most drop dead gorgeous that I have ever seen.  The antique furniture including Egyptian revival period pieces mixed with the graphic floors and Twombly art is pure perfection.  One of my dreams is to meet Cy Twombly, preferably at this home, but just looking at these photos makes me feel as if I already know him.

Art and Interiors on the Huffington Post

I was honored to be asked by artist Kimberly Brooks to curate a post on the Huffington Post and the subject of Art and Interiors seemed like a perfect fit.  As someone who holds an art history degree, art will always be important in my life and also my work. A beautiful home will never feel finished unless it is filled with artwork that isn't just bought as a prop but is meaningful to the owner. I can't think of any other artist whose work is admired by so many and can be seen in so many different types of interiors than Cy Twombly. Hope you enjoy it!
