Give a Hoot

The owl is the symbol of wisdom and judging by the number I saw at the New York International Gift Fair, vendors were smart to include them in their lines.  The tray from Simrin above was especially beautiful.

Maybe this owl pencil cup from Design Ideas will bring wisdom at work or school.

Eleven Design Studio was wise to hire native artisans to craft their 100% wool Twoolies.  No two are alike and this owl was especially cute.

I really liked this metal owl from HomArt

Even John Robshaw has an owl pillow in his collection.

This gold owl paper clip from Vagabond Vintage would chic on any desk.

This owl mobile from ige would be perfect for a kid's room.

Lots of owl pillows were at Room Service.

One of my favorite booths was Donna Wilson from London.  This owl pillow is especially sweet and soft.

Donna Wilson also offered an owl cup.

A blue owl pillow at Room Service.

Owl pitchers at Two's Company.

Jonathan Adler offers a white owl planter. It would look great with green succulents inside.

Fashion designer Jason Wu even got into the act with an owl on the belt that accompanies one of his dresses.  Wonder if I can buy that separately.  I could always use a little more wisdom.

Orange You Glad I Went to the NYIGF?

I apologize for a lack of post yesterday.  I had trouble uploading my photos but I'll try to make up for it today.  Due to torrential downpours in New York on Sunday, I ended up visiting the New York International Gift Fair on Monday instead.  It was so nice seeing all my friends and finding new treasures.  One of the themes I noticed was a lot of orange.  Or maybe it jumped out at me since it's my favorite color.  Either way, it is the perfect color as we go into autumn.  Please keep in mind that all the vendors at NYIGF are wholesalers.  They almost all will sell to designers who have a resale certificate.  They offer stocking and non-stocking prices and may also have a minimum for ordering.

I was touring Pier 94 so late that I the lovely ladies from Diane James Home had already left but I did get to see their beautiful blooms.  I love faux flowers for styling but they are also great for people with allergies and weekend homes.  Even the water looks real.

These colorful suitcases from Go Home Ltd. caught my eye too.  They would look great in any interior but I'd use them in a kids room to corral toys.

You can't lean against the horse on this orange pillow from Two Girls in Avignon but it would look great in the middle of a sofa.
How fun would this orange chair from Design Legacy look around an outdoor dining table?
The booth that stopped me in my tracks was Lance Wovens.  Not sure if you can tell in this photo but the pillows aren't made of fabric, it's woven leather that is soft as butter.  The patterns and colors are gorgeous and you can even buy the woven leather to upholster furniture.  This was my favorite find.

I wish I could have this wall hanging at Gargoyles Ltd. made into a scarf. I love the print and the orange.

These gorgeous pumpkin colored bed linens at Peacock Alley wish I had a different color scheme in my apartment.  I actually met one of their team members when I was in another booth and she mentioned seeing something on my blog.  My ears perked up and of course I had to say hello.  It's so nice meeting blog readers at NYIGF!

I always love the animals and orange at Waylande Gregory!

I also love the animals and orange at Thomas Paul.

More orange at Room Service.

I think I might need to order these Hermes orange looking leather boxes from Made Goods.  Especially since I'm sure the price is much more affordable!

Love this Asian orange chair at Red Egg. Oh, and that blue console!
Lots of fabulous orange table lines at Dransfield & Ross caught my eye too!

There were also orange pillows and a cute little table at Dransfield & Ross.
Vintage inspired orange chair and table at Blue Ocean Traders.

Cute orange snail at Design Legacy.

Another chic orange chair, this time at Grace & Blake.

I really loved these pillows from Ferm Living and the orange lacquerware, below, from Pacific Connections.

NYIGF: iomoi for Matouk

The New York International Gift Fair starts this weekend.  It's always an exhausting event but all the great products and fun people make it worth the trip.  I am most excited about seeing the new iomoi for Matouk collection.  Since I've moved into my new apartment, I've been obsessed with real linen cocktail napkins and their monkey designers are calling my name!  Check them out in the At Home Division, Javits Center, Booth 7804.  Bon Weekend!

My NYIGF Trend Reports for Elle Decor

Elle Decor enjoyed my trend reports from the New York International Gift Fair last year so much that they asked me to cover the show for elledecor.com this year.  You can check out my trends of Butterflies & Bugs; Nautical;  and Letters, Words and Numbers on their website.  It was an honor to contribute to one of my favorite shelter magazines!

NYIGF 2011: For the Birds

I kept noticing birds everywhere I went at the New York International Gift Show.  The pillows from Dransfield & Ross are an especially beautiful example.  Birds are a harbinger of spring and here's hoping that after this brutal winter they arrive in real life soon too!
