Outdoor Chic

Since I live in New York City and don't have a terrace, looking at outdoor furniture can be depressing but visiting the Lane Venture showroom in High Point Market was actually inspiring.  I can't wait to own a pool and patio someday so I can own some of theit cool European inspired chairs and lounges.  I also learned a lot about the flow through fabrics that allow you to leave your outdoor pillows and cushions out in the rain.  They even make fully upholstered outdoor furniture now.  I think we're going to have to fast track our pool plan now!

Pool Party

It's going to be 95 degrees today and 98 degrees tomorrow.  Needless to say, I'd rather be cooling off in a pool instead of running around to appointments in the steamy city.  Since I can't play hookey, I'm hoping that these pool pictures will help me think cool thoughts.  Except for the last one of course.  Enjoy!

La Piscine

The new Spring 2011 ads for Salvatore Ferragamo were just released this week. Creative Director Massimiliano Giornetti said this collection was inspired by the 1969 French film La Piscine (The Swimming Pool) and he wanted to portray “that free-spirit, bohemian, gypsy attitude.” I thought it might be fun to continue our warm weather posts with a look at this chic film.  It stars Romy Schneider and Alain Delon as a couple spending their August holiday at a villa neat St. Tropez.  After her ex, Maurice Ronet, shows up with his daughter played by Jane Birkin, things take a dark turn.  As the title suggest, most of the movie revolves around the pool and Romy Schneider's tan skin and orange lip gloss remind me of an Estee Lauder beauty ad.  What's really amazing is that all of the clothes, except for Alain Delon's tight swim trunks, are completely timeless.  It's no wonder that fashion designers are inspired by La Piscine.  I wish it was warm enough for a dip in the pool today!
