Color Story

I spent part of the morning catching up on all my favorite website including T magazine where there was a great story on Olatz Schnabel. Since splitting from artist Julian Schnabel, she's moved into a new home and the wall colors are extraordinary.  They also reminded me so much of some of the great street style photos that came out this past fashion week.  They aren't a literal translation but an example that maybe black isn't the only color for clothing in New York.

Fun at Fashion Week

Fashion week ended for me today and not a moment too soon.  I don't think my feet could make it one more day.  It's always a wonderful ride but also very exhausting.  I don't know how most editors go on to cover London, Milan, and Paris fashion weeks. I am taking the night off to recover and will be back tomorrow refreshed and ready to go.

One person who never takes a day or night off is 80+ year old photographer Bill Cunningham.  He can outpace anyone at fashion week and still makes the fashion flock giddy with excitement when they see him.  He took my photo this morning as I exited a taxi on my way to the Michael Kors show.  Even if it never makes The New York Times, just knowing that for one split second, I was worthy of his lens made my day.  Hope his big, bright smile makes yours too.

Michael Bastian Fall 2012: The Extra Man

After four and a half days of braving the women's fall shows, I was happy for a brief reprieve at the Michael Bastian men's fashion show this afternoon.  Every boy blogger in the land was in attendance and the crowd was just as chic as the men who walked the runway.  Fall at Michael Bastian is beyond gorgeous and it was honestly one of the best shows I've seen this week which includes the set with tress, falling snow and chandeliers.  I'm not just saying that because he's featured in my book either.

I joked after that I wanted to marry the man who wears the fall Michael Bastian collection which was actually kind of funny after I read the show notes.  The theme was "The Extra Man" a phrase that came from a 1974 New York Times story on the "city's most popular 'extra' men" that was "culled from the address books of a number of hostesses."  The list included Bill Blass, Albert Hadley, Mario Buatta, Jerome Zipkin, and David Webb, among others.

These were men who were charming, well-dressed, educated, and single—that’s really important. These are the guys who you actually want to talk to at a party. They’re topical, smart, and can tell a dirty joke. They are the social Olympians.” - Michael Bastian

I really hope every man will look to Michael Bastian for his fall 2012wardrobe because if he does, he will the best dressed man where ever he goes.
