Drama at Downton

Just a reminder that everyone's favorite period series Downton Abbey returns to PBS this Sunday, January 8th.  I was lucky enough to attend a screening of the first episode and Q&A with some members of the cast last month.  I also was a naughty girl and then watched the entire season 2 online because I couldn't wait. You are in for many drama filled episodes that deal with World War I and the changes it causes at the house. Of course, the best quips come from Dame Maggie Smith who plays the Dowager Duchess of Grantham and I can only imagine how author Julian Fellowes comes up with them. "What's a weekend?"

Divine Downton Abbey

If you're not watching Downton Abbey, you are missing out.  It is the best show on television right now and I'm obsessed.  It already aired in the UK and can currently be seen Sunday nights on PBS here in the States.  I was wondering why it reminded me of Gosford Park and then I realized it was also written by award winning author Julian Fellowes.  It's essentially an upstairs/downstairs period piece with enough drama to keep it interesting.  Of course, the best parts are the costumes and interiors.  Highclere Castle stands in for Downton Abbey and you can check out the interiors and grounds on their website and even arrange a tour. The episodes are also available on iTunes and DVD.  If anyone needs me Sunday night, I'll definitely be watching Downton Abbey!
