Barbour, Bikes and Boys

As I was walking up Madison Avenue the other day enjoying the sunshine, I noticed something interesting in the window of Barbour.  They had signs up announcing their new Barbour Steve McQueen collection.  Long time readers know I love myself some Steve McQueen so this seemed like an excellent excuse to post some more pics.  I also do actually have some straight male readers who I think might find the clothing and coats appealing. I especially love the cool jackets like the one below.  Motorcycle and daredevil attitude sold separately of course.

"I live for myself and I answer to nobody." - Steve McQueen

"Racing burns like a fever inside me." - Steve McQueen

"I did grow up next door to Steve McQueen, who was a very famous movie star at the time, but as a kid it didn't impress me. We always had great fun with him. He would take us out on Sundays on his motorcycles, riding around in the desert; he was like a second father." - Herb Ritts

"He was a beautiful, beautiful man." Jaqueline Bisset

"I'm not sure whether I'm an actor who races or a racer who acts." - Steve McQueen

"He's a misunderstood bad boy you're sure you can cure with a little warmth and some home cooking." - Faye Dunaway

"I don't believe in that phony hero stuff." - Steve McQueen

"I remember seeing him across the swimming pool and my knees were knocking. He radiated such macho energy. Men wanted to be like him. Uptight society ladies and biker molls wanted to be with him." - Ali MacGraw

"Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting." - Steve McQueen

"I'm out of the Midwest. It was a good place to come from. It gives you a sense of right or wrong and fairness, which is lacking in our society." - Steve McQueen

Steve's Sexy Sunglasses

I was looking for excuse to post more photos of Steve McQueen and since he always wore Persol sunglasses, what better time than after my Silver Lining Opticians post! Steve always looked sexy and even more so in sunglasses. Sigh.

Mr. Crown

The dune buggy photos of Jude Law in the Dunhill advertising made me think of The Thomas Crown Affair. Not the 1999 remake with Pierce Brosnan and Renee Russo, although I like that one too, but the 1968 original version that starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. While most of Faye's costumes and hairstyles look pretty dated, Steve McQueen and his handsome bespoke suits still look fabulous today. The same can't be said of the short shorts he's sporting above but I'll let those slide since I don't mind looking at his legs! I first saw this film when I lived in Beacon Hill in Boston and I used to love walking by Thomas Crown's house at 85 Mt. Vernon Street. The interiors were shot on a sound stage but also surprisingly don't look that dated either. Wish the same could be said of today's movies!

The Tao of Steve

I love Steve McQueen. He is the epitome of cool. A man's man who loved to drive fast cars and have a good time. I even dated a few boys just because they reminded me of him. So when I was at the Taschen warehouse sale yesterday, I just had to pick up a book of photographs of him taken by his friend William Claxton for just $9.99. Because they were friends, Claxton had close access and his photos have a sense of intimacy that today's paparazzi photos will never have. Claxton was also married to model Peggy Moffitt who did a few photo shoots with the actor. Hope you enjoy the photos as much as I did!
